Rathore bags gold; Anjali bronze

Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Anjali Vedpathak-Bhagwat stamped their mark on the ISSF World Cup in Sydney, Australia, winning a gold and bronze medal respectively.

While Rathore won the double trap gold on Thursday, ace rifle shooter Anjali won a bronze medal in sport rifle three-position event on Friday.

Anjali shot 97.6 in the final, following her 582 in the preliminary round, to finish with 679.6 points and claim third place.

Czech Republic's Katerina Kurkova won the gold with 683 points (581 + 102) and China's Rongxue Chen took the silver with (586 + 95.8).

This was Anjali's first World Cup medal in sport rifle though she has won a number of medals in her pet event -- the 10 metre air rifle.

Earlier this week, Anjali finished outside the medal bracket and fifth in the 10 metre air rifle.

Suma Shirur finished 25th with 567 points and Deepali Deshpande (565) ended up 26th in a field of 29.

Rathore, who shot 141 in the preliminary round, went into the final with a five point lead and won the gold scoring 46/50 in the final.

Rathore is one of India's medal prospects in the Athens Olympics in August along with Anjali Vedpathak Bhagwat and Abhinav Bindra.

Italian shooter Spisnob ended eight points behind to win the silver with a score of score of 136+43.

Australia's S Haberman (136+39) took the bronze.

In the women's air pistol, Anisa Sayyed missed a place in the final by a single point. She finished with 381/400.
