Henry named Footballer of the Year

May 10, 2004 15:02 IST

Thierry Henry added another honour to his growing list on Monday when he became the first player to be named England's Footballer of the Year in successive seasons.

Arsenal's French international striker scooped a remarkable 87 percent of the votes cast by the English Football Writers' Association.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard came second with Henry's Arsenal and France team mate Patrick Vieira third. Henry's latest double was completed two weeks after he was voted Players' Player of the Year for the second successive season.

The striker has scored 37 goals this season, including 29 in the premier league, and has created countless others to inspire Arsenal to the title.
