Arsenal [Images] forward Robin van Persie will miss their next Champions League game against Ajax Amsterdam after receiving a one-match ban from UEFA [Images].

The Dutchman was sent off for serious foul play just before halftime against Swiss side FC Thun at Highbury on Wednesday in their Group B match, which Arsenal won 2-1, after catching Austrian defender Alen Orman in the face with a raised foot.

UEFA said Van Persie could "reasonably be presumed to have had no intent to bodily harm his opponent" but ruled that the reckless element in the challenge was punishable.

The 22-year-old Dutch international, who will miss the Premier League club's visit to Ajax on September 27, cannot appeal against the ban.
