Top shuttlers are unlikely to take part in the hastily arranged selection trials by Badminton Association of India, which can further aggravate the already tense situation between the players and the federation.

Many players have already taken two to three weeks' exemption from BAI either to recover from their injuries or appear for exams and it is unlikely that they will take part in the Sudirman Cup selection trials on May 6 and 7, which has been organised on such a short notice.

Anup Sridhar and Arvind Bhat are nursing their injuries while, Anand Pawar, Aditi Mutatkar and some others are appearing for exams.

"It has been arranged in a very short period. Trials are held after the camps but they have suddenly decided to conduct it now. How will the players be able to attend it at such a short notice?" a player told PTI.

"The are purposely calling us at the beginning and it is a ploy to make the players toe the line," the player said.

Vimal Kumar, who coaches Sridhar, said that the shuttler was going through his own programme and would be available only after that.

"He has sought an exemption for three weeks. He has got his own programmes. He is beyond trials and nobody can question his commitment," Vimal said.

"How can players who have not join the camp suddenly appear for trials in two days time? It's too short and meaningless."
