Fourth seed Nathan Thompson of the United States of America clinched the India F3 Mens ITF Futures tennis tournament in Mumbai on Saturday after overcoming countryman Ryan Young 6-1, 6-2.

Qualifier Young was out of steam since the first game of the match as the hot and humid conditions of the city took a toll on him.

Thompson was aggresive and spotted his opponent's weaknesses early in the match as Young's movements on the court had reduced drastically.

Thompson broke Young in the fourth and sixth games of the first set and dominated the proceedings from thereon.

In the second set, Thompson broke Young in the first and third games to inch towards victory.

Young was not feeling well and opted for a time-out as he was dehydrated.

He, however, tried to make a comeback and won two service games but was no match for Thompson as the latter wrapped the second set 6-2 to win the match in straight sets.

On his rival, Thompson said, "He was not keeping well and I knew that. He just had a bad day. Probably the heat and the number of matches he played over the last one week took a toll on him."

Thompson and Young have been playing and training together under Robert Davis in Bangkok.

Young, who qualified for the main draw in Mumbai, said he just had a bad outing.

"Even before the match I wasn't well. He just played good tennis. I wasn't just able to hit on the other side of the court. Hopefully my next venture in Gurgaon will be a different case altogether," said Young.
