JCT stunned defending champions Dempo 2-1 in their opening game of the ONGC [Get Quote] I-League at the Nehru stadium in Goa [Images] on Sunday.

Eduardo Da Silva opened the scoring for JCT in the 17th minute while Balwant Singh doubled the lead in the 64th minute.

Substitute Nicolau Borges scored the consolatory goal for the home side in the 78th minute, but Dempo were unable to hold on to their chances and struggled to get past JCT goalkeeper Karanjit Singh.

JCT defender Anwar, who played his heart out in defence, was declared man of the match.

Dempo dominated the game, especially in the second half, creating several goal-scoring chances but their strikers just could not get the ball past Karanjit Singh, who brought off some smart saves.
