If you have one day Spend the morning at Fort St George
exploring colonial Madras. In the afternoon head for Mylapore
to get a flavour of the real Tamil Madras. In the evening, if you have
time spare head for Marina Beach
for a stroll. Otherwise, catch up on some shopping and head for
Mount Road if you're looking
for some handicrafts or to T Nagar
if it is silks you are interested in.
If you have two daysOn the second day spend the morning at Georgetown where you can combine some sightseeing with a bit of bargain-hunting. In the afternoon head for the Government Museum. Alternately, spend time at Guindy National Park and visit the Little Mount nearby. A better alternative for your second day in Madras may be a visit to Mahaballipuram, just outside the city.
If you have five daysOn the third day spend the morning visiting St Thomas Mount and the Theosophical Headquarters or the Government College of Sculpture. In the afternoon take off for Tiger Cave or Tirukalikundram or Crocodile Bank.
Spend your fourth and fifth day driving out to the erstwhile French
colony of Pondicherry or to Kancheepuram, a famous weaving town.
