Onam
On the tenth day, Thiruvonam, folks gather at their ancestral homes or theravads. After ritual baths, visits to the temple and distribution of gifts, everybody dons crisp new clothes and sits down to the traditional Onam feast on plantain leaves or Ona Sadya. Rice, parippu, sambar, rasam and vegetables (spiked with with grated coconut, green chillies, ginger, coconut milk, tamarind) and sweet payasam.
