Does India have the bowling to do well in the WC?

Your Views

Name: saikrishna
Message: india needs antother zaheer khan to at least stay in the reckoning for the world cup and hopefully indian batsmen will curb their attacking instincts particularly sehwag in WC cos u just cannot hit 4's n 6's as u do in subcontinent..so it wud b better that he is told to do so...cheers to india nteam 4 world cup

Name: johny
Message: yeah..obvious..they are gonna do well..our bowlers Khan, Srinath and Harbhajan are doing well. By the way our team should also use Te ndulkar and Ganguly.

Name: Vinay
Message: I don't think this attack can win us the world cup. They are far too inconsistent and lack bite. Even on a good day, they are far from threatening. That means our batting will have to click big time to compensate, and in South African conditions, that is unlikely.

Name: Sai Anand Srinivasan
Message: I think with Zaheer, Srinath and Bhajji (Harbhajan), we form a good potent attack. But the other two are awful. Nehra is awfully going for runs and Agarkar seems to have lost the art of bowling well to the batsman. I think the first three should play and a third seamer must be groomed now immediately. It could be L. Balaji or a player like Irfan Pathan, Debashish Mohanty, etc. And Karthik must be the partner of Harbhajan in one day matches as Kumble must retire from onedayers. If these all happens, India will be considered a very good bowling attack to contend in the World Cup. Our batting is at the top now.

Name: vivek ranjan sinha
Message: At present india has a formidable batting line up. Rajkot one day has clearly shown the strength of indian batting. even on the south african pitches, indians, with their strong batting line up should face no difficulty in setting up a good target or defending a high total. this ability, ofcourse is music for the indian bowlers. zaheer khan , shrinath and harbhajan have had a good record in the past one year and if they maintain the good work, atleast 30 overs would be taken care of. sehwag, ganguly and sachin will do the rest. selectors would really be appreciated for dropping out agarkar and kumble. it would be too much for the rest of the bowlers to make up for them. Finally the bottomline being that even if the bowling line up of india is not as strong as that of other teams, but still the batting prowess of indians would certainly make up for that. i strongly believe that with the present line up , indians have pretty decent chances of winning the wc.

Name: Hari
Message: Batting is definitely not going to be a problem for India. So most probably we should win all games where we will be chasing. In terms of bowling Zaheer Khan & Harbhajan Singh are going to be the key. Harbhajan Singh had quite a successful series last time we played in South Africa. If these two provide the crucial break throughs I think we should be at least competent enough. I dont really see any other bowler to be of any significance really. So whoever it is ,doesnt really matter. All said and done , good luck our boys , and i truly hope we win the world cup.

Name: Bharat.B
Message: No,India defenetly doesn't have the necessary bowling strengths to win the world cup.Except Zaheer and srinath i don't think any one has the international class.Harbhajan is exceptional on the subcontinental pitches but not on the southAfrican pitches. So India has to really concentrate on the Bowling squad if they wanna win the worldcup. Our selectors should search for the right talent(younsters). They should experiment in the WestIndies and newzealand tours and should pick the best bowlers for the world cup.Otherwise the efforts our batsmen put will defenetly go into vain. What is the use If our batsmen scores 300 runs and our so called bowlers could not defend that???

Name: pervez
Message: india will not lift the world cup unless they have atleast 3 to 4 wicket taking bowlers. As the recent experimentation of ganguly i think it was kinda waste because you already have batsmen who can reach 300 + but if you gonna send agarkar and company not only u deny your main batsman valuable match practice but also send wrong signals to them. experimentation is required in the bowling dept try at least one new seamer from the domestic circuit who knows we may hit the right combination.

Name: subbu
Message: We have a poor bowling attack on the whole. Khan has done well, but no real support from him. The ideal bowling attack would be Srinath (if fit and hits rhythm), khan, harbajan, mohanty/balaji. the fifth bowler can be done by sehwag/ganguly/sachin/yuvraj and kaif. Kumble is not required. Even though he has done india proud, it is time he stops playing one day matches and concentrate on test matches.

Name: Tejas
Message: No. India has only three good bowlers. zaheer khan, srinath and harbhajansingh. Since the world cup is in South africa, they need two more quality pace bowlers. Ashish Nehra and Agarkar are way too expensive and should not be considered for the world cup. Kumble can stay as a back up spinner, but they still need to find two more quality pace bowlers before world cup who can contribute a little bit with bat too. Ideally they should play 4 pace bowlers and one spinner in most of the world cup matches. So there is a definite need to find two more quality pace bowlers.

Name: Andy
Message: India does have the potential to do well in SA. With Zaheer and Harbhajan being our strike bowlers and Srinath giving a very good 3rd option. The 4th bowler needs to be either Nehra or Kumble (i personally feel Nehra is the right choice). The fifth bowling option should be between Saurav, Sachin and sehwag. With valuable backup from Yuvi. If we have these 4 solid strike bowlers in good rhythm, there's no resaon why we can't do well in our bowling. Agarkar can be in the 16, but shouldn't get to play unless, nehra or kumble are injured or badly out of form. Nehra was a good during the Natwest series and that shows that he's very useful in bowler friendly conditions. I'm sure Nehra or Kumble could do a much better job than agarkar on any day. Good Luck to them!

Name: BHISHAM BHATIA
Message: Yes, they do have. And this time they will get the WORLD CUP 2003.

Name: raheel parvez
Message: no india doesn't have the bowling to spring a surprise in the worldcup.much depends on the batting.for god sake remove agarkar out of the team.

Name: Frank
Message: India needs a good fast bowler who can also swing his bat not the otherway.

Name: VasanthakumarPR
Message: Yes India has....Since the SouthAfrican pitches support fast bowling, the bowlers 2 of three (Khan, Nehra and Srinath) should be in the squad along with Agarkar since he can be a good hitter at times. And one spinner is enough bcoz Shewag or Sachin or Ganguly or Yuvaraj can bowl. And that might be Kumble or Harbajan. And now the South African pitches have been turned to batting pitches, the three fast bowlers will be helpful. So with these bowling squad,India can surely perform well in World Cup

Name: Krishna Jasani
Message: I don't think any of the bowlers you mentioned above form a consistent attack, with the exceptions of Zaheer who is turning it on his own. Srinath has been with the team more then all of these folks combined I guess, but he doesn't pose a threat to the opposition as a Glenn Mcgrath, or Waqar Younis and the other greats do. The others collectively are the same, and don't even mention the name Agarkar and bowler in same sentence. This guy needs to either bulk up or learn to bowl good length and line. I clearly remember we lost the first match to SA last year's worldcup because of his genius and Ganguly's captaincy. That match practically kept us in the back foot throughout the rest of the series. Harbhajan is the one I am yet to figure out? He is an outstanding Test bowler but becomes average when One days roll around. India technically doesn't have any bowler that can hold the opposition at death or when it matters the most. Their only chance is to bat second and hope that their batting line up is on fire that any daunting task of a total they will be able to overcome. Or else as you saw in the first two one days in India(the current series) they will put up good numbers 280 or so, but their bowlers will give the game away "VERY EASILY"

Name: manohar malapati
Message: india does not have the bowlers and the allrounders of the calibre of 1983 winning team.

Name: Ramesh Laxman
Message: Dear Sir, India has never had problems with producing good batsmen and spin bowlers. But they have had problems with speed bowlers. The present line - up ob bowlers for the World Cup in South Africa and Zimbabwe will not be able to do the job.India needs agood strike fast bowler and based on the present list only Srinath can fit that bill. Please not use two spinners unless the second spinner is also included for his bating skills. And spare the partime bolowers. They will be clobbered at that level of cricket. Whhen you win the toss bat first and post a a 300 plus score. You have the batsmen and anything should not be accepted. Then and only then India will have a fighting chance to carry rhe cup again. And before Indian Cricket should invest in a Bowling School to train fast bowlers and who knows come 2006 they will strike terror and collect the silver

Name: vishal patel
Message: no,india needs fast bowlers not medium pace bowlers.

Name: mayank
Message: yes, india does have the bowling to do well in the WC. Nothing is impossible, the combo of zaheer and srinath, and the duo spin of bhajji and kumble will have the opponents reeling....! just watch...this indian team WILL WIN IT BABY!!!!!

Name: Aamer
Message: except Zaheer Khan no body is there in our team to handle pressure. May God bless our team. we are having a best batting linup . And no one can beat us if we have formidable bowling option like pakis or Ausis..

Name: Rohit
Message: Yes, India has quite decent a pace attack now with Zaheer bowling exceptionally well. Moreover i think even though South African pitches are known to favour seamers, they have gone slow these days and Indian Batsmen should be able to score against any attack. In my view Indian Batsmen will get the world cup for us with some decent support from our bowlers. Great going India....keep it up and get us the World Cup.

Name: Parimal Dutta
Message: No , absolutely not, specially Ajit , not competent to play in world cup

Name: prashant patel
Message: india bowler has very good bowler, but they do not have selfconfidence and 'JOSH'.

Name: karan gupta
Message: india has a decent bowling attack but to succeed against stronger teams the bowling department will have to do overtime.its going to be hardwork for them.zaheer khan has the mentle of taking wickets upon him!!srinath doesnt experiment much,he is experienced enough to keep things simple and tight.but quite worrying are the bowlers-nehra and agarkar.both the guys have exceptional talent but they experiment too much.they should realise that the enthusiasm theey have in them can be utilised in a better way.they certainly have the urge to perform for the country but again two guys who are very inconsistent isnt doing justice to their calibre. coach john wright will have his work cut out to make his bowlers understand the need to use mind while bowling.agarkar and nehra get too excited to see swing and nehra gets complacent after doing well in one game.as for harbhajan and kumble ..well as ganguly says it will be a luxury to play them both in a match,i think harbhajan is a much better option than kumble because he has a nag of taking wickets and being economical too.and he can bat too!!!

Name: pradeep
Message: srinath & zaheer can pretty well make a dynamic combination. But this will be effective only for 20 overs. But that too you can't say whether they can maintain the run rate during the slog overs. What India needs is an allrounder specialized in bowling that too pace bowling.

Name: prabhat mohendra
Message: if we remember we won 83 WC with bits n pieces all rounders viz. jimmy, binny, madanlal and to an extent krish, kapil n sandhu. i think this holds the key. what v need is not absolute wicket taking bowlers but need a few on whom the skipper can rely to let them bowl their full quota et al.v hv 4 that sake sachin, veeru, yuvi, ganguli, bangar, even kaif can roll his arms. the focus has to b on containment of runs.ys i think india hs the armoury n gangs needs to utilise them tactfully.

Name: MadhuChakraMP
Message: With Javagal back in the squad, I think India has a pretty decent new ball attack. Zaheer and Javagal opening the attack and Nehra coming in one change will be great. Depending on the pitch, Kumble can be included in the team depneding on the pitch conditions (If it is a bouncy pitch). Bhajji shud NE ways be the spinner in the IndianTeam and Yuvi, Saurav, Sachin, Sehwag shud bowl more often.

Name: Salil
Message: Kedar Salil and Ram are more consistent ... take them ...

Name: rajesh
Message: i think srinath &zaheer should be given the new attack.agarkar should be exploited with the old ball. nehra should improve his line and length.and should bounce his ball&swing to disturb the batsman. if this done india will defenately excell in SOUTH AFRICA and win the cup. no problem with batting attack.

Name: Shashidhar Rampally
Message: Zaheer, Srinath and Harbhajan will surely be the core of our bowling attack. What India lacks I believe is a third fast bowling option. Agarkar failed time and again. So, India needs to experiment in the games prior to the world cup to find a new bowling option, I believe.

Name: Jadli
Message: India has the bowlers who can perform well and let us say very well in the One day format. Please remember to add even the name Sanjay Bangar & Sourav Ganguly to the list of bowlers for the world cup....

Name: sunil vasistha
Message: if injuries do not let us down ,then we have a good attack on bowlers friendly wickets.e.g.zaheer would be a good bowler if bowl to his potential.Nehra can also be handy in those conditions.

Name: P.Mohan
Message: India Should go with atleast 5 Fast Bowlers as the SA pitches will not help spin bowling. India should pick Zaheer Khan,Javagal Srinath,Ashis Nehara,T.Yohannan & T.Balagi. Only Harbajan as Specialist Spinner since the other players like,Sachin,Sewag,Yuvaraj can be handi for few overs.

Name: vikas
Message: only zaheer has the potential to perform on SA tracks , none of the other bowlers can do very well ,i think srinath and nehra can do well too , but these guys arenot consistent which is very imp on those surfaces .

Name: shrutikantamalik
Message: this is a good decisation

Name: Christo Nelson
Message: The Indian Bowling attack is not that consistent. I really doubt if they could do well to eliminate the opposition that quickly. Please don't consider Anil Kumble for the world cup, he may be the most successful indian bowler and that is in the indian conditions. He does not have a good record outside india. There are a lots of quick bowlers better than Kumble.

Name: Rajkumar Tegampure
Message: No. We need to look for some really good bowler. With these bowlers it just not possible to win the world cup.

Name: NANKU.KANOJIYA
Message: Yes they have some experience bowlers where they cn turn the game & some talented batsmen

Name: Krishna mohan
Message: Indian Bowlers think that they are world class bowlers forgetting that they r bowling to world class batsmen

Name: Arun
Message: Its foolish to take two spinners to world cup when we very well know that Harbhajan do not perform in abroad pitches and Kumble is no longer a wicket taking bowler. To add to our woes, this time world cup is held in South Africa. I want India to win world cup however, realistically speaking, India does not hold chance this year because of their vulnerable bowling attack. Its high time they should start to prepare to make Akram/Shoaib Bhai kinda bowlers for the next to next world cup. All the best for world cup 2008.

Name: Ramesh
Message: if the selectors select the bowlers on merit we certainly have the bowling to do well in the world cup.my probables are jrinath, venkatesh prasad, zaheer khan, harbhajan singh and anil kumble

Name: Christuraj saminidy
Message: India though has the masters in batting line up, have no strike bowlers who can really win the matches for the country. Time to develop seamers!.

Name: psreddy
Message: yes, definitly Indian bowlers has to do well.Especially Srinath and Jaheer Khan has to lead the bowling department.
