Australia recall Bevan and Lehmann
February 14, 2003 16:09 IST
Australia have recalled batsmen Michael Bevan and Darren Lehmann to their 12-man squad for the World Cup Group A match against India on Saturday. Bevan, who has the highest one-day international batting average in world cricket, missed the world champions' 82-run victory over Pakistan on Tuesday through injury, while Lehmann is available again after serving a five-match suspension. The returns of Bevan and Lehmann will probably mean a demotion in the batting order for Andrew Symonds, who earned the man-of-the-match award against Pakistan after scoring a magnificent unbeaten 143, his first one-day international century. Batsman Jimmy Maher, who made only nine against Pakistan, and seam bowler Andy Bichel were left out of the squad, while leg spinner Shane Warne has returned to Australia after failing a drugs test. Team (from): Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting (captain), Damien Martyn, Darren Lehmann, Michael Bevan, Andrew Symonds, Ian Harvey, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie, Glenn McGrath.
