Kapil behind Indian team in hour of crisis
January 06, 2003 19:01 IST
Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev on Monday threw his weight behind the battered Indian cricket team.
"The team is really down in the dumps in New Zealand. But still I believe they can win the World Cup [in South Africa]," Kapil Dev said in New Delhi.
"It is important for me to think that India will make it to the Super Six stage. And after that any team can win on a given day, such is the nature of one-day cricket," he said.
Though he was disappointed with the team's poor performance in New Zealand, he said he would like to concentrate on the positives.
"My message for the team is that we are with you. We believe in you. It doesn't matter how they perform. I will stand behind the players.
"With the World Cup round the corner, I do not think we should run them down. They need our good wishes," Kapil Dev said.
