Australia vs New Zealand, Port Elizabeth

• Shane Bond  (6-23) now has the best bowling figures for New Zealand in LOIs bettering the previous best of 6-25 by teammate Scott Styris (against West Indies at Port of Spain on 12-6-2002).
• These figures are Bond's personal best in LOIs in 25 matches. His previous best was the 5-25, also against Australia at Adelaide on 26-1-2002, which incidentally were the best figures by a Kiwi bowler against Australia prior to this match.
• The previous best figures by a New Zealander in the World Cup were the 5 for 25 by Richard Hadlee against Sri Lanka at Bristol on 13-6-1983.
• Bond's figures are now the second best by any bowler against Australia in LOIs. West Indian Winston Davis had taken 7-51 at Leeds on 11-6-1983 -- in the 1983 World Cup.
• Only Imran Khan (6-14) against India at Sharjah on 22-3-1985 has better figures than Bond (6-23) for a losing side in LOIs. The other bowlers with six wickets for a losing side are: South African Shaun Pollock (6-35 v West Indies at East London on 24-1-1999) and West Indian Tony Gray (6-50 v Australia at Port of Spain on 9-3-1991).
• In fact, Bond has been so dominant against the Australians that he now has 22 wickets (avg. 10.45) in 6 matches against them. Further, he also has one four-wicket haul and two five wicket hauls against the Aussies!
• The partnership of 97 runs between Michael Bevan and Andy Bichel was Australia's best in the World Cup for the 8th wicket, obliterating the previous best of unbeaten 50 runs between Rodney Marsh and Rodney Hogg against Zimbabwe at Nottingham in the 1983 World Cup.
• The above partnership was also the best for Australia against the Kiwis for the 8th wicket eclipsing the previous best of 81 runs between Bevan and Brett Lee at Melbourne on 29-1-2002.
• Bichel's 64 was his highest score of his career in 43 matches. He had made an unbeaten 34 at this same venue against England on 2-3-2003.
• Meanwhile, Bichel's 64 was the highest by an Australian batsman at number nine. Shane Warne had made 55 against South Africa at this very ground on 4-4-1994.
• It was also the highest by a number nine batsman in the World Cup. Sri Lankan Guy deAlwis had made 59 against Pakistan at Swansea in the 1983 World Cup.
• However, Bichel's 64 equals the highest score made by a number nine batsman in LOI history. West Indian Michael Holding had also made 64 against Australia at Perth on 5-2-1984.
• The catch of Bichel was Chris Cairns's 16th in 27 matches in the World Cup. He now has the maximum catches than any other fielder in the World Cup.
• Just behind the Kiwi is Australian Ricky Ponting with 15 catches in 25 matches. Ponting during the match became the Australian fielder with most catches in the World Cup. He went past the tally of 14 catches (in 33 matches) by Steve Waugh.
• The catch of Fleming was Adam Gilchrist's 30th dismissal (28ct+2st) in 17 World Cup matches. He now equals the World Cup's record tally of 30 dismissals (in 20 matches) by Pakistani Moin Khan -- the most dismissals by a keeper in World Cup history.
• Brett Lee's 5-42 was his best in the World Cup. His previous best was the 3-36 v India at Centurion on 15-2-2003.
• Lee figures are also the best by an Australian against New Zealand in the World Cup.
• New Zealand's 112 was its lowest in the World Cup, the previous lowest being the 156 against the West Indies at Southampton in 1999 World Cup on 24-5-1999. With the Kiwis registering its lowest ever total in the World Cup, South Africa (its lowest 185) is now the only team in World Cup history not to have been dismissed for a score less than 150 runs.
• New Zealand's total was the lowest at this ground. India were dismissed for 147 by the home side on 9-12-1992.
• The man of the match award was Bond's third in 25 matches.
