What makes a K C Bokadia film?

Producer K C Bokadia Last year witnessed a number of large budget films, most of which were completed in a year, like Asoka, Lagaan, Gadar, Dil Chahta Hai, K3G.

There are others which have been in the making for over six years, like veteran producer K C Bokadia's Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam .

His last release was the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Lal Badshah. Six years later, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam will finally see light of the day.

The film boasts of an impressive lineup: Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, even Aishwarya Rai in a special appearance.

Seema Sinha spoke with the producer. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Why the long break after Lal Badshah?

Amitabh Bachchan stars in Lal Salaam You see, big star cast films do take more time compared to smaller films. Assembling the stars, coordinating and getting work done takes a lot of time. After the film is over, there is the additional task of good publicity and marketing.

We took three years to complete the film. We have been filming for the last three years, but the film was launched earlier. We shot for a total of 140 days. We also spent six months dubbing and mixing. I could release the film tomorrow if I wanted to. But we need time for publicity so that we can build interest. No one will be able to make a film with this star cast again.

But people have not never heard of this film.

Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan star in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam That was a sacrifice on our part. We didn't publish a single news item or photograph publicising the fact that I was working with Shah Rukh and Salman. It was deliberate. When we are ready for release we will talk about it so that it looks fresh. Had we begun talking earlier, the film would have looked stale.

What does the film focus on?

It is a social subject --- a typical K C Bokadia film. It is not a triangular love story just because there are two heroes and one heroine. It deals with family problems and finds solutions for them.

How did you manage to coordinate dates with Shah Rukh Khan as he was busy with Asoka, K3G and Devdas? Did that throw the film off schedule?

No, I was never affected by all that. It did not make any difference to us. We were on schedule.
