Gamang visits village hit by Christian-tribal clashes

Orissa Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang has visited Ranaloi village under Ramgiri Udayagiri police station in Gajapati district which witnessed clashes between Christians and tribals on Wednesday.

State Director General of Police Dilip Mahapatra and Home Secretary Ajit Tripathy accompanied him to the troubled village.

Gamang stayed for about four hours in the village and talked to the affected people. He also held discussions with the district officials regarding the law and order situation.

At least four people sustained bullet injuries and several houses belonging to the Christian community were set on fire during the clashes.

The chief minister announced that all the victims whose houses had been burnt would be provided houses under the Indira Awas Yojana.

Meanwhile, official sources said altogether 28 people including two Christians had been arrested in connection with the clash.
