Report on high-rises submitted to Maharashtra government

June 04, 2003 02:33 IST

Maharashtra Chief Secretary Ajit Nimbalkar on Tuesday presented a report on high-rise buildings prepared bya study group to Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde.

The group was constituted in January this yearafter public criticism against high-rises in Mumbai.

The report highlights the factors responsible for the growth of high-rises and recommends measures to regulate them.

One of the major recommendations of the group is to restrict, in normal course, the height of buildings heightto 70 metres.Buildingsthat are proposed to built abovethe stipulatedheightwill have to beapproved byan panel of experts.

The group also recommended the constitution of a Infrastructure Development Fund, whose amountwill be spent on construction and upgradation of infrastructure.
