Stamps scam: Top cop to be produced in court

Joint Commissioner of Police Sridhar Wagal, arrested in Mumbai in connection with the multi-crore fake stamp papers scam, will be produced before a special court in Pune on Saturday.

Wagal, the seniormost Maharashtra police official arrested for his alleged role in shielding the prime accused in the case, Abdul Karim Telgi, was brought to Pune on Friday night by the Special Investigating Team.

He was summoned to the SIT office in Worli on Friday, interrogated for two hours and then placed under arrest. He is
the sixth police official to be a arrested in the scam.

The other policemen arrested so far include Assistant Commissioner of Police Gokul Patil, Inspector Vashist Andhale
and Sub-inspector Pratap Kakade of Nalasopara police station.
