The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh National Executive Committee meeting began in Chitrakoot on Friday amidst chanting of vedic mantras.

The three-day meet, which is being attended by about 305 delegates, including RSS chief K C Sudershan and functionaries of its frontal organisations, began with the observance of one minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed Sangh leaders and other important national figures.

The meeting would have 13 sessions in which issues pertaining to the situation in the North-east, the efforts to improve relations with Pakistan and the Kashmir initiative and caste violence would be discussed.

"Different issues including the prevailing situation in the country will be discussed at the three-day meeting," Sanghsar Karyawah Mohan Bhagwat said in his inaugural address.

Though the RSS spokesman Ram Madhav had made it clear on Thursday evening that the meeting did not have any political agenda, sources said that its relations with the Bharatiya Janata Party were likely to be discussed albeit in an informal way.  

The RSS spokesman's outbursts against the United Progressive Alliance government on Thursday indicated that the Union government's performance would also come under scanner in the meeting.

Madhav had said that the situation in the North-east, caste violence in the country, the Kashmir initiative would also be discussed during the three-day meeting.

He had also said that the Sangh would also explore ways and means to see what it could do for the rehabilitation of the people displaced in the recent earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir [Images] and the Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad international president Ashok Shingal and its general secretary Praveen Togadia were present at the meeting while BJP was represented by its general secretary Sanjay Joshi.

BJP president L K Advani has not been invited.
