KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:34 IST)

Ram>> I didn't say manipulating, I said manoeuvering. Obviously, Amitabh himself - without facing reality.

FLOPSTAR>> I agree, his ban on the press suited him. The day he needed the press, not only did he lift the ban, he also sent messages to each and every pressperson to interview him.

FLOPSTAR (Mon May 26 1997 20:34 IST)

Komal.. Is Amitabh as manipulative as he is made out to be? his fourteen year ban on the press was a convenient one.. What do you think?

Mard (Mon May 26 1997 20:34 IST)

I thought Raja Hindustani was pretty bad. How come it did so well?

Doc (Mon May 26 1997 20:35 IST)

Komal don't lie. Amitabh never called u

AMITABH (Sr) (Mon May 26 1997 20:35 IST)

SIPPYJI--this is a message from the hero of your next movie.. Please welcome one and only "AMITABH (Sr)"

Baadshah (Mon May 26 1997 20:35 IST)

Mr Ramesh: R u doing films with AB.? Is there a film starring him and Madhuri?

SMALL (Mon May 26 1997 20:36 IST)

Mr Sippy... would you distribute a Amitabh film now..?

antony (Mon May 26 1997 20:36 IST)

Does Yash Chopra want to work with Amitabh Bachchan in any new ventures?

FLOPSTAR (Mon May 26 1997 20:36 IST)

Komal.. Why doesn't Amitabh have a secretary? Or does he?

Parde ke Peeche (Mon May 26 1997 20:36 IST)

Who is the biggest heroine in Hollywood?

krack (Mon May 26 1997 20:36 IST)

komal - Do you not think that there is an excessive amount of prying into the private lives of stars? Granted, it comes with the territory, but don't the glossies go overboard oftentimes?

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:36 IST)

Where does Amitabh go from here?

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:36 IST)

BADSHAAH>> Before the fighting, he played a surgeon who performs operations in a drunken state. No medical profession allows this. Is it worthwhile discussing that portion of the film?

KRACK>> Stars are public figures. And if you blame the glossies for prying too much, why don't you say that the public figures should be more discreet in what they do?

Vijay (Mon May 26 1997 20:37 IST)

Ramesh: What would be an ideal proposal -- fantastic proposal -- for AB now?

Heroine1 (Mon May 26 1997 20:37 IST)

Komal, Who is this mysterious Doc ? Just getting curious *G*

Adivesh (Mon May 26 1997 20:37 IST)

Do you think Amitabh would consider taking up direction? Do you think he would make a good director?

SMALL (Mon May 26 1997 20:37 IST)

Mr Sippy.. considering all the major films flopping today, what do you think is wrong?

Ali (Mon May 26 1997 20:37 IST)

Komal: Is Border an anti-Pakistan film cause I'm getting sick of Bollywood bashing Pakistan?

Parde ke Peeche (Mon May 26 1997 20:38 IST)

Mr Sippy: Can a distributor back out of a film if he thinks it has shaped very badly? Does he lose all his money?

FLOPSTAR (Mon May 26 1997 20:38 IST)

Komal.. which films do you think will really work today?

Heroine1 (Mon May 26 1997 20:38 IST)

Mr Sippy / Komal YOUR COMMENTS ON CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE OF STARDUST. Do you think something can be done about it ?

Ram (Mon May 26 1997 20:38 IST)

What about the underworld and Bollywood? I hear that a big producer got shot the other day. Is Mr Ibrahim still calling the shots?

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:39 IST)

Where does Amitabh go from here?

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:39 IST)

Which are the film worth looking out for?

Mard (Mon May 26 1997 20:39 IST)

Rameshji: What does Bollywood need most now?

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:39 IST)

MARD>> No film which does record-breaking business like Raja Hindustani can be bad. This may be your personal opinion, but once a film is released, it is the public verdict that is final. There have been many films on marital discord in Hindi, but no film has ever upheld the institution of marriage as brilliantly as RH did. The husband and wife separate in the film, but both refuse to give a divorce. That was the most brilliant scene in the film, and that, according to me, appealed the maximum to the sensitive Indian audience.

antony (Mon May 26 1997 20:39 IST)

Komal: I think you're absolutely correct about public stars being more discreet, I pick up a movie magazine to see what movies are in the pipeline, and end up seeing all of them filled with Manisha Koirala's stories of her boyfriends! Ughhh.

Mard (Mon May 26 1997 20:40 IST)

Rameshji: What does Bollywood need most now? I mean in terms of concepts and themes?

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:40 IST)

I meant, which are the films worth looking out for -- and I don't really mean AB related ones!

mohan (Mon May 26 1997 20:40 IST)

hi everybody

Vijay (Mon May 26 1997 20:40 IST)

WHERE IS RAMESH SIPPY?

Baadshah (Mon May 26 1997 20:41 IST)

Mr. Sippy: Does AB come late in shootings also ?

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:41 IST)

Where does Amitabh go from here?

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:41 IST)

ADIVESH>> As I said earlier, Amitabh is a great actor, but great actors don't necessarily make good directors. He should restrict himself to what he knows best.

ALI>> Border, to my knowledge, is NOT an anti-Pakistan film.

Ramesh Sippy (Mon May 26 1997 20:41 IST)

Paarde ke peeche: To some extent it is like backing a horse. Most seasoned punters would go into the antecedents of the horse, the parents and probably even grandparents for whatever little I know about horses. Similarly films are also acquired on the basis of producers background , his past films his director and music director, their past record and the rapport that this combination enjoys with the stars that have been signed for the project.

It is hoped that the selection of subject and script will have been considered with utmost care, given the proper combination of producer director, music director, cameraman etc. Well there is only one way to make money is the success of the film at the box office which in any case does not go beyond 19-20% in a year.

krack (Mon May 26 1997 20:41 IST)

Mr Sippy, where are all the Madhubalas, the Mumtazes, the Nargises of yesteryear? Why are we condemned to eternally watch the risque gyrations of the Mamtas and Urmilas of the world?

FLOPSTAR (Mon May 26 1997 20:42 IST)

Komal.. do you think that the people who see these films and decide on their fate , have got some weird tastes. what do you think will work with the audience?

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:42 IST)

Antony>> Heck, if you pick up Stardust, expecting to hear about movies in the pipeline, what can I say? Try Film Information next time!

Adivesh (Mon May 26 1997 20:42 IST)

Would distributors still blindly back an Amitabh film?

Vijay (Mon May 26 1997 20:43 IST)

RAMESH: I LOVE YOU. One personal factor: How did you get Jeetendra to see reason and marry Shobha? That was the best thing that man ever did in his life. You must be proud of Ektaa.

SMALL (Mon May 26 1997 20:43 IST)

Mr Sippy.. would you distribute a Amitabh film now?

Ramesh Sippy (Mon May 26 1997 20:43 IST)

Although the major successes do not cross 9-10% in a year, the rest make a little money. Since stakes are much higher now, even that little money could be a reasonable sum.

antony (Mon May 26 1997 20:43 IST)

Komal: Will this year's blockbuster be released anytime soon? Will it be Subhash Ghai's Pardes?

Ali (Mon May 26 1997 20:43 IST)

Komal, Thanks for answering my questions, but why don't you confirm that Koyla flopped? Did it do well, or did you actually like it, God forbid.

Baadshah (Mon May 26 1997 20:43 IST)

Mr. Sippy: Does AB come late in shootings also ?

Doc (Mon May 26 1997 20:44 IST)

Komal don't behave like Amitabh as if u know everything about every aspect of life. Don't be aple priya Tendulkar or...

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:44 IST)

Doesn't Jaya Bachchan have better business sense than her husband - Tere Mere Sapne and Dekh Bhai Dekh being two examples? So why doesn't Amitabh let her take all the business decisions?

Mard (Mon May 26 1997 20:45 IST)

Komal: Why can't Hindi film-makers make interesting films? Why must every film be a clone of the other? Do they think audiences are duds?

FLOPSTAR (Mon May 26 1997 20:45 IST)

Komal.. do you think that the people who see these films and decide on their fate , have got some weird tastes. what do you think will work with the audience?

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:45 IST)

ANTONY>> Yeah, well, will Sanath Jayasuriya break the world record tomorrow? Your question, like mine, is for a Nostradamus, pal, not for me.

Baadshah (Mon May 26 1997 20:45 IST)

Mr Sippy: Does AB come late in shootings also ?

SMALL (Mon May 26 1997 20:46 IST)

Mr Sippy.. would you distribute an Amitabh film now?

antony (Mon May 26 1997 20:46 IST)

Komal: I didn't say Stardust, but we don't have much of a choice. Try to get what we can, even Movie is the same! Which is the next blockbuster?

TAHSEEN (NJ, USA) (Mon May 26 1997 20:46 IST)

Mr Ramesh Sippy: Of late, script has acquired more importance than the story. What is your preference?

loony (Mon May 26 1997 20:46 IST)

Doesn't Amitabh know when to RETIRE?

Ali (Mon May 26 1997 20:46 IST)

Hey Mard, Bollywood does make some good films. Unfortunately classics like Khamoshi, Lamhe and Akele Hum Akele Tum almost always flop.

Ram (Mon May 26 1997 20:46 IST)

Nice talking to you guys. Good night!

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:46 IST)

ALI>> Please for heaven's sake, I couldn't have liked Koyla. Yes, Koyla is a loser.

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:47 IST)

What are the films worth looking out for?

Doc (Mon May 26 1997 20:47 IST)

Komal, u r right .U r comparing F.I with Stardust.!!!! Arrey, ram ram

FLOPSTAR (Mon May 26 1997 20:47 IST)

Komal.. do you see a film much before anybody does? Do these producers invite you or something? Do they ask your opinion?

Vandita (Mon May 26 1997 20:47 IST)

Doesn't Jaya Bachchan have better business sense than her husband - Tere Mere Sapne and Dekh Bhai Dekh being two examples? So why doesn't Amitabh let her take all the business decisions?

Ramesh Sippy (Mon May 26 1997 20:47 IST)

Vijay: First, thanks for the love. As far as Jeetendra is concerned, it was purely his own decision. All he did was to convey to me one evening that he had decided to marry Shobha and that he desired to complete all the formalities including the wedding within seven days time.

That's how he has always taken important decisions in his life and succeeded. As far as Ektaa is concerned, there is no doubt that all of us near and dear ones are extremely proud of her and her achievements at such a young and tender age. But let me inform you that Tushar who is a silent mover is just arrived.

SMALL (Mon May 26 1997 20:48 IST)

Mr Sippy.. would you distribute a Amitabh film now?

Ali (Mon May 26 1997 20:48 IST)

KOMAL. Thanks a lot, you've made my day. One last question. When is Gupt releasing and how are the preview reports.

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:48 IST)

Antony>> I didn't mean Stardust per se, I was merely referring to the glossy as a genre, as against trade papers. The first is for flip stuff, we do the news part.

antony (Mon May 26 1997 20:49 IST)

Aaeee, Komal, why so much antagonism? I meant which movie has been carrying "good reports" ?

Doc (Mon May 26 1997 20:49 IST)

Ramesh Sippysaab. Yu are an intelligent person. Why not make a thriller on today's topic i.e C R Bhansali ke kaarname or Deve Gowda ke peeche kaun etc. Let's make a practical real thriller but fictitious.

KOMAL (Mon May 26 1997 20:50 IST)

ALI>> Gupt is due for release on July 6. Its music is very good, and the pre-release reports are favourable. But it's price is too heavy, almost 2.5 crore (Rs 25 million) per major territory.

loony (Mon May 26 1997 20:50 IST)

Can't a movie be made where Amitabh does not have to dance, fight et al

grets (Mon May 26 1997 20:50 IST)

Hello, where is Mr Bachchan today?

Ramesh Sippy (Mon May 26 1997 20:50 IST)

Tushar arrived in Bombay for a short while and is showing signs of surpassing his entire family in his achievements in the future. A quiet but a sure achiever, the result of his achievements after returning from Michigan after final studies in business management. He will prove a major surprise to all close and dear ones.

Doc (Mon May 26 1997 20:50 IST)

Flopstar, Komal has never seen any movie by buying tickets. In fact, he has taken me for many movies as his chamcha

SMALL (Mon May 26 1997 20:51 IST)

Mr Sippy, you are not answering my question...would you distribute a Amitabh film now?

Ali (Mon May 26 1997 20:51 IST)

Komal, Thanks again bud. If you've got an e-mail address and can afford the time, please contact me at 'ali@indolink.com' sometime. Later.

antony (Mon May 26 1997 20:51 IST)

Mr. Sippy: Do you know about Indra Kumar's Ishq? When is that releasing?
