Well played, Sri!

A genuinely quick bowler, who could be extremely hostile when the mood struck him, Srinath time and again did the improbable for Indian cricket. The inswinger was his stock delivery, but in time he learnt to bowl the outswinger and the slower ball too.

One memory that stands out is the first Test against South Africa at Ahmedabad in November 1996. South Africa crashed to a sensational 64 run defeat, Srinath picking a career-best 6 for 21 as the Proteas, chasing a modest 170 for victory, crumbled for 105 in their second innings, an hour after lunch on the fourth day.

The last six wickets fell for nine runs in just 22 balls.
