Planning your interfaith wedding

October 13, 2008
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you're organising an inter-religious wedding:

  • Make sure you have discussed things thoroughly with your partner before breaking the news at home. Issues like religious views, wedding ceremonies and children should be thrashed out between the couple first.

  • Remember that tempers may flare and be prepared to deal with that. Keep your cool and focus on your goal -- which is to get through the wedding.

  • Try and stay as involved in the preparations as you can. You don't want trouble brewing somewhere without your knowledge.

  • Try to be sensitive to your parents as well as future in-laws. Even if their demands seem unreasonable, if you can accommodate them, just do it. It'll go a long way in avoiding any blow-outs before or on the big day.

  • Don't change your mind about the way you want things right before D-day or create any drama related to the wedding. Yes, we know it's your day and you want it just so, but it might be a good idea to let the small stuff slide and concentrate on the big picture -- getting through the wedding without any obstacles.
