The Coast Guard has taken control of the pirated merchant vessel near Porbandar coast.

Reports reaching Bombay, however, could not confirm whether the stowaways have been captured.

"The only information we have with us is that MV Med Star is in the command of the Coast Guard; there has been no further contact with them," D M Gohi, officer in-charge of Porbandar port told rediff.com over the phone.

He, however, stated that the Coast Guard had instructed him to vacate a jetty just in case the Coast Guard vessel came in for relief materials if the stowaways do not give up soon.

"The stowaways are asking for asylum in any European country," he added.

Speaking to rediff.com over telephone from Bhuj, the Kutch superintendent of police, Anup Kumar Singh, said, "Unconfirmed reports say the Coast Guard have captured the vessel and will be coming to Porbandar by this afternoon."
