Constructed in 1613, the tomb of the Mughal emperor Akbar at Sikandra, near Agra, reflects the harmonisation of Hindu and Islamic ideas. Akbar had a cordial relationship with the Rajputs and most of his reign was peaceful. In his 50th year in power, he ordered the design of his grave. Its architecture is remarkable in that it does not have the characteristic Islamic dome or minarets. The mausoleum on top of the tomb has a number of Rajput-style chhatris.
