After the idols have been placed in the chariots, to the chant of Jai Jagannath Haribol and crash of cymbals and roll of drums, the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri, Dibyasingh Deb, in a white garb, arrives, in a palanquin, to perform Chhera Panhara or the sweeping and mopping of the platforms of each of the three chariots, as a mark of modesty. The chief minister of Orissa, Naveen Patnaik and M Rajendran, the governor attended this ceremony, as well.
